The world-renowned and globally recognized ISO 50001 certification created by the independent International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was provided to Lidl Cyprus by DEKRA’s technical experts for successfully implementing an effective energy management system. A total of 17 stores, 1 warehouse and the company’s head offices in Cyprus have been certified. At the international level, Lidl already meets the international standard in 27 countries.

The continuous management of energy and gradual certification of Lidl’s subsidiaries certainly have their advantages. Not only do they help to cut down on costs, but they also contribute to the protection of the environment in the long run. The objective of ISO 50001 is to achieve the constant improvement of the company’s energy efficiency through measures, infrastructure and procedures for increasing energy efficiency and optimising energy use.

Examples of specific measures taken by Lidl include the use of LED lighting, the application of smart heating and air-conditioning technologies through the implementation of a Building Management System (BMS), and training employees on conscientious energy consumption.

Through the energy management procedures applied, the transparency of all energy flows throughout the business is ensured, thus making it possible to reveal further cost-saving options in Lidl stores, warehouses and administration buildings. This allows the business to increase not only its energy efficiency, but also its profitability.

Since 2013, all of Lidl’s subsidiaries have successively obtained ISO 50001 certification. Thus, a total of 9926 stores, 160 warehouses and 97 administration buildings have already been certified to ISO 50001.
