World Environment Day, which is celebrated annually on June 5, is a special day for Lidl Cyprus for it places the protection of the planet at the centre of its strategic planning.
Specifically, Lidl Cyprus went ahead with the following actions:
- Withdrew one use plastic bags, saving 45 tons of plastic per year, thus contributing to the reduction of waste as well as the reduction of CO2 by up to 40%
- Indefinitely abolished the sale of one use plastics in its stores, reducing plastic by 7 tons
- Improved energy efficiency indicators in all its premises
- Implements an effective energy management system (ISO 50001 Certification) in all its facilities, in its stores, warehouses and headquarters
- Commits to achieving 20% less plastic usage in its private label packaging by 2025
- Aims for 100% recyclable packaging of its private label products by 2025
At the same time, Lidl Cyprus, as a member of the Schwarz Group, participates in the REset Plastic programme, a holistic, international strategic initiative regarding plastic with five areas of action: avoidance, (re) designing, recycling, removal and research.
In vision of a better tomorrow, Lidl Cyprus will continue to contribute to a sustainable future for the planet as well as the well-being of its citizens by implementing a holistic model of responsibility which holds the environment as a strategic pillar.
