PROTECTING THE CLIMATE - TOGETHER ON THE WAY TO NET-ZERO!

The impacts of climate change are becoming ever more noticeable. As one of the largest food retailers in Europe, we are partly responsible for greenhouse gas emissions. We want to live up to this responsibility and set new standards in climate protection. Strong partnerships are crucial for us to reduce emissions along our entire value chain.

Lidl is committed to Net-Zero by 2050, which means that we will reduce our greenhouse gas emissions as close to zero as possible by 2050 and offset unavoidable emissions.

In this way, we are reducing our operational emissions across all countries and strictly adhere to the methods of the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi). We also work closely with partners and suppliers. We have committed our largest suppliers, who are responsible for 75% of product-related Scope 3 emissions, to reduction targets in accordance with the criteria of the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) by the end of 2026. Lidl also supports and enables its suppliers to achieve the targets through appropriate measures such as training.

The SBTi is a global initiative that supports companies in setting science-based targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in line with the latest climate science.

GOOD TO KNOW

Our climate strategy is based on science-based climate targets. Lidl already formulated its own climate strategy with additional climate targets in 2020 as part of the Schwarz Group companies' climate strategy. Our climate targets contribute to the science-based targets of the Schwarz Group companies and are based on the scientific methods of the SBTi. As part of the Schwarz Group, Lidl officially joined the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) in August 2020.
