The first Lidl Cyprus stores opened its doors in 2010 and 13 years later, we now have 20 stores and 1 of the biggest distribution centre across Cyprus, employing over 700 people.

Lidl’s success story started in the city of Neckarsulm in the German state Baden-Württemberg. The cornerstone for Lidl’s international expansion was set with a food wholesale company in the 1930s. What has always characterized Lidl’s history is the courage to explore new paths.
Owing to our characteristic business model, our company grew rapidly; and 15 years later 450 stores were active as local suppliers in Germany. By the end of the 1980s, Lidl expanded to other countries. Today we are represented in 32 countries and operate approx. 12.000 stores in 31 of them – and we are still growing: Since 2017 and 2018 Lidl has been also an active player in the US and Serbia.

Lidl & Schwarz KG is founded as a food wholesale company in Neckarsulm, Germany. Until today, our international headquarters is still located in Neckarsulm.

The first Lidl store opens in Ludwigshafen-Mundenheim in Germany.

15 year after its foundation, Lidl already operates more than 450 stores in Germany and counts 5,000 employees.

As the first discounter ever, Lidl permanently adds one of its own fair trade brands “Fairglobe” to its assortment.

Lidl takes the plunge and crosses the ocean to open its first store in the United States. Lidl Cyprus launches the 17th store. A special store designed for the consumer and his needs. Moutayiaka store offering a different shopping experience. With a special building form fully integrated into the environment.

2019
Lidl Cyprus announced the completion of its renovated state-of-the-art logistics centre in the Larnaca Industrial Area, at a ceremony attended by the Minister for Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Georgios Lakkotrypis.

10 Years Lidl Cyprus. The 18th store in Cyprus is now open and its one of the biggest in Europe.
