In the setting of the beautiful village of Agros, over 150 people had the opportunity to participate in interesting experiential workshops, seminars and activities, as well as relax in the unique grounds of the ‘Rodon’ hotel. The 4th Lidl Wellness Camp, a special two-day event dedicated to good health, nutrition, exercise, psychology and general well-being, took place on the weekend of 16 and 17 September. The two-day event was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, the Cyprus National Commission for UNESCO as well as the Cyprus Dietetic & Nutrition Association.

The occasion for the creation of the Lidl Wellness Camp institution in 2020 was World Food Day, which is celebrated annually on October 16. With this initiative, and recognizing the responsibility it bears as one of the largest food companies, Lidl Cyprus attempts to bring to the fore a constructive discussion around nutrition and its relationship with health, while at the same time promoting sustainable development, respect for the environment and responsible consumption. It also aims to provide the right tools and supplies to adopt healthier practices and habits with regards to matters of nutrition, physical and mental health.

In order to achieve this, Lidl Cyprus has collaborated with experts from the fields of nutrition, psychology, sports and the environment who, during the weekend, were able to develop various topics from their field. Participants in the wellness camp were informed on how micro plastics affect the environment and our health by Dr. Xenia Loizidou, they explored the power of the soul with Paralympian Weightlifter, Maria Markou Pikkoua, they learned basic, daily yoga exercises for flexibility from gymnast Christi Loukas, they tasted the delicious creations by Chef George Georgios, they practiced Capoeira with Mestre Casquinha and attended many other interesting seminars with qualified experts.

Simultaneously, young participants took part in specially designed experiential activities organised by the ‘Forest School’! The ‘Forest School’ is an educational approach, which aims to teach through play and in outdoor environments. Participating children played, created, explored and above all, had fun in nature, under the guidance of specialised instructors.

Through this initiative, Lidl Cyprus aims to contribute to providing information, raising awareness and by extension contributing to all collective actions that will bring about a better tomorrow. It therefore offers ‘food for thought’ so that we can build a healthier everyday life and a sustainable planet for both ourselves and future generations.
