As one of the largest food retail chains, we are aware of our share of responsibility, which is ever growing due to the size of our company, as well as our presence in many parts of the country. In order to set quality criteria, we are constantly focusing on latest developments and latest data related to health, science and technology. By doing so, we constantly place the range of products of our private label under the microscope and without forgetting the reason why our customers trust our products. Their desires and demands are an absolute priority for us.
Balanced diet With reagrds to Fruits & Vegetables, Lidl Cyprus accepts active ingredient residue up to one third of the upper legal limit. Stricter limits mean greater security. Based on scientific findings, we aim to reduce salt and sugar content as well as the amount of saturated fatty acids in our products, with a goal of 20% less sugar and salt by 2025. In addition, our goal is to reduce the use preservatives as much as possible or avoid them altogether. We optimise the composition of our products without sacrificing their taste. When the desired taste cannot be achieved without fragrances or if the use of extracts and natural fragrances is not enough, only then do we consider the use of artificial fragrances.
Certified sources of raw materials Considering its business stance, Lidl Cyprus expresses its responsibility towards humans, society and nature. Sustainable agriculture places emphasis on means and methods of work which make the soil more productive and at the same time, minimises harmful effects to water, air, soil, climate, biodiversity, and human health. Lidl wants to offer private label products to its consumers which are defined by environmental responsibility. By configuring our range of products we support the efforts of recognised certification standards such as Fairtrade, UTZ, Bio or Rainforest Alliance and we offer individual certified products that bear corresponding labels. For years, Lidl has been committed to promoting the sustainable cultivation of coffee, cocoa and tea. As for the Fruits, Vegetables, Flowers and Plants that we trade, they all have the GLOBAL G.A.P., Fairtrade or the Dutch Milieu Project Sierteel certification. We also take special care of our animal origin products (meat, dairy, eggs, fish) by supporting certification standards, such as MSC, BIO and ASC.
Environment Lidl's goal is to reduce the use of plastic by at least 20% by 2025 as well as the 100% recyclability of its product packaging materials. In addition, saving natural wood is considered the best means of protecing the forests and contributes significantly towards the protection of the climate. This is why the careful use of wood, cellulose and paper is a priority for our products and packaging. Where recycled material cannot be used and raw materials must be used indtead, those with Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) certification should be preferred.
